Incumbent perform the full range of cardiac diagnostic ultrasound procedures and the more complex specialized procedures on adult and pediatric patients. This includes M-mode, 2 & 3 dimensional, color Doppler, pulsed Doppler, continuous wave Doppler, transesophageal echo, pharmacological and exercise stress echo, Holter monitors and ECGs. Recognizes and describes abnormal findings and tailors the procedure to provide a comprehensive exam. The cardiac sonographer makes the decision as to when an echo contrast agent &/or agitated saline injections according to the CVC policy. Will prepare and position patients, adjust equipment to best demonstrate area of interest, operate various stationary and portable equipment and imaging systems. Will rotate shifts and assignments as needed, including after hour on-call. The Sr. Ultrasound Technologist assists in the training of fellows and students as assigned.

CLIN _Prepares equipment and supplies for procedures in an organized and timely manner. Accurately pulls non-narcotic medications from the locked cabinet &/or Pyxis and prepares (but does not administer) medications to be used during diagnostic testing. Accurately stocks non-narcotic medicine cabinet and carries key
CLIN_Provides accurate theoretical and practical instruction to resident physicians, US students and staff sonographers
CLIN_ Performs procedural due diligence to ensure images are processed and archived and the RIS/EMR systems are updated with accurate information as it relates to the patient's medical record and billing
Provides consultation to areas outside the department where work unit procedures are performed and serves as a resource to resolve problems as they occur in the work unit
RAD - Effectively manages patients during procedures. Positions patients as necessary to ensure accurate testing in consdieration of age. Coordinates patient requirements during diagnostic procedures and/or transportation to ensure patient safety. Effectively determines patient need based on age-specific criteria. Maintains a sterile environment and ensures effective PPE for each patient.
RAD - Effectively performs routine and complex ultrasound procedures ensuring optimal imaging. Sets parameters in accordance with established protocols or physician orders. Assist with special procedures and the care of the patient within scope of licensure. Assist with procedural documentation and ensures timely and accurate test results. Applies radiation safety practices such as the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) model sparing exposure whenever possible and providing adequate shielding.
RAD - Monitors patients, diagnostic procedures, and diagnostic equipment making appropriate adjustments to ensure optimal results
Basic Life Support
Must possess A.R.D.M.S. and/or CCI Certification
Must have two years experience in cardiac ultrasound
Must have two years experience in adult echocardiology
Must have two years of college with emphasis in Allied Health Sciences, preferably Diagnostic Medical Sonography
Registered in pediatric echocardiography - RDCS
